Comic Review: Uncanny X-Men #537

Here we go with a review of some of the best comics I've read this week.

Uncanny X-Men # 537

Written by Keiron Gillen with Art by Terry and Rachel Dodson.

Let's begin with the cover. It isn't too exciting or eye catching. It shows Kitty screaming and injured. However, I do like that it does have relevance within the story which seems to be rare these days. It's not just character showcase, which is a good sign.

This issue of Uncanny is the third part of 'Breaking Point' and is quite simply awesome. The plot goes that former Powerlord of Breakworld, Kruun has made his way to earth with refugees from his world. The end of the second issue showed him attacking Magneto and creating weapons from the special Breakworld metal and this issue picks up from there with Krunn threatening Colossus and Kitty while they lay in bed. Kruun takes away Colossus's powers with a special 'cure;' and soon they fight.

The issue really gets good when the Breakworld weapon is used against Kitty. It's a very clever device used by Gillen and I for one felt for the characters. It adds a layer of tension to an already great plot.

Kitty is forced to loose her containment suit which leaves her intangible, and unable to be seen or heard. She runs around trying to find help but we are shown that Kruun has been busy taking the rest of the X-Men out of the equation. That is except for Wolverine. Wolverine with his superior sense of smell manages to detect Kruun in time and a well done action sequence ensues.

The issue ends with a cliffhanger that leaves me, for one, wanting  more.

The art is these issues has been good, but not particularly special in my opinion.

I will give this comic:

5 out of 5 for story

3 out of 5 for art.

Overall the issue gets a solid 4 of 5.
